The Blum Center for Developing
Economies at UC Berkeley links world-class faculty, inspiring new curriculum, and the best new technologies, services and business models to create real-world solutions for developing economies. The center educates students, builds partnerships, and rigorously evaluates its innovations in order to make scalable and sustainable contributions toward the alleviation of poverty.
The University of California's fundamental missions are teaching, research and
public service. National rankings consistently place Berkeley's undergraduate
and graduate
programs among the very best. Several graduate and undergraduate students
from UC Berkeley have worked on the Darfur Stoves project. In addition,
as a winner in the University of California Berkeley's 2006 Big Ideas
Contest, the Darfur Stove Project has received generous support from
UCB through a seed grant.
Engineers Without Borders - USA (EWB-USA) is a non-profit humanitarian organization
that partners with developing communities to improve their quality of
life. The design for manufacturing of the stove was done through EWB-SFP.
The Hunger Site is an online activism site that offers simple ways to help in
the fight against the silent killers of hunger and food insecurity. Through
their Gifts that Give More, the Hunger Site is our main donation site and has provided generous assistance
with the transaction costs for every donation made on their site.
The University of San Francisco is an internationally recognized premier Jesuit Catholic, urban University with a global perspective that educates leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world. Several USF MBA students and faculty have worked on the Darfur Stoves Project.
The Darfur Stoves Project believes in collaborative solutions. We know that in order to be very good at one thing, you can't be an expert at everything. We are experts in technological solutions for complex problems but we rely on our partners on the ground to be the experts in the in-country assembly and distribution of our stoves.
If you are an NGO working in Darfur or any of its border regions and would like to get more information about partnering with us, please contact us.
